The Americans and the British imposed English as second official language of negotiations against the resistance of the French. Their success had to have consequences of big reach.
And so English became the one only language of the treaty of Versailles, but also the official language of the society of nations stemming from the peace treaty. French preserved well a status of equality, but lost its ascendancy until then incontested

INTRODUCTION
From Peking to Dublin by way of Teheran, that we love it or not, the whole world recognizes the hegemony of the English language and this, even for people who have this tongue in inheritance.
We should keep in mind that, Arabic, Chinese, German, Nigerian and Ghanaian people have a thing in common: the English expression as official and international language. It is true that historically, until the Second World War, the biggest linguistic empire was the French-speaking in terms of Empire.
The French area of the colonies of New Caledonia in borders of Indonesia by way of big western and central French-speaking Black Africa, which established the ascendancy of the French diplomacy in spite of the fact that territories having English in common language, were not the slightest.
Until the First World War, French language was the dominant one of the international diplomacy. During the negotiations of the treaty of Versailles, the Frenchmen have had the unpleasant surprise to see that the Americans and the British collaborated most with the Englishman
They justified themselves first of all by evoking the bad knowledge of French of the American president Woodrow Wilson, before hurling the argument of the weight: the war was gained only thanks to the American help
