HISTORY
1- Malta was a colony of Great Britain in the 19 century until 1964.
2- The history of Malta is from the Neolithic linked to the Sicily up to the arrival of the Knights in the order of Saint-Jean in 1530. Napoleon goes hunting the Knights of Malta in 1798 before the Maltese call British Empire in 1800. The British Empire makes of Malta a colony up to independence in 1964.
The Maltese were colonized by English during a long period. Consequently, their culture is very English-speaking, for instance the Maltese have two officials languages (English end Maltese) but the national languages is Maltese.
3- The country is completely independent since September 21st, 1964. However, Malta keeps the queen Elizabeth II at her head.
4- Malta became a Republic in 1974 after having acquired her independence. In 1990, Malta asked for its membership at the European Union, which was refused because of its small size. The 1st January 2008, it comes in the European Union
