The Band

The Sex Pistols are an English punk rock band formed in London in 1975 who created the British punk movement of the late 1970s. The song ?God Save the Queen,? became a symbol of the United Kingdom's social and political turmoil. They started the punk movement in the United Kingdom and inspired many later punk and Alternative Rock musicians. They are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of popular music.

The band revolutionized the idea of what rock & roll could be. In England, the group was considered dangerous for the society and was banned across the country; in America, they didn't have the same impact, but many bands in both countries were inspired by the force of their music, while many others were inspired by their independence.

The Sex Pistols originally comprised vocalist Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock but Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977. Rotten’s songs were about controversial issues like anarchy, abortion, violence, fascism, and apathy; without Rotten, the band wouldn't have been threatening to England's government. He provided the band's conceptual direction, calculated to be as confrontational and threatening as possible.

The band created controversies which captivated Britain. Their concerts constantly faced difficulties with organisers and authorities, and public appearances often ended a mess. Their 1977 single ?God Save the Queen?, attacking Britons' social conformity and deference to the Queen and Royal family.
