Gladiator

The story takes place in the Antiquity. Maximus is a military commander, who is brave and faithful of emperor: Marcus Aurelius. The emperor remarks his courage, his strength during his fight. The emperor wants only Maximus obtains the power and became the new emperor.

Nevertheless, the emperor’s son, Commodus, learns this news. Accordingly, Commodus killed his father and gives the order to kill Maximus. He escapes but his wife and his son are assassinated. Then, he became slave and he’s sold to be a gladiator.

Maximus takes away every combat and he has to go to Rome in order to participate in gladiatorial games. He wants his revenge against the actual emperor Commodus and kills him.

The public loves him more and more, and thinks he deserves his freedom. He can obtain his freedom if he wins the last fight against Commodus. Commodus is lower, so he hurts Maximus before the combat. However, he beats Commodus and kills him. Despite everything, Maximus died in front of the public, at the middle of the arena, who cheered him.

I liked this movie because the scenario is really interesting. Russell Crowe is an excellent actor and we are obligatory deep in the story, in the epoch. The case of Maximus is involved and makes us react as the public in the movie. It’s a heroic tragedy; we are affected by the tragedy of what happens to Maximus: his wife, his son, the injustice... And we feel concerned by his story and are passionate by the glorious period of his life: all the victories as gladiator. We have different feelings: emotion, rage, disappointment...

For me, it’s one of the best movies of the century. If you never see it, I recommend you to go quickly to see it.
